Thousands of residents and businesses in west Miramar are being advised to boil their water before use following a service line break.

A precautionary boil-water notice was issued about 7 p.m. Friday for five communities including Nautica, Riviera Isles, Sunset Falls, Sunset Lakes, and Harbour Lakes.

The boil-water notice encompasses an area from Interstate 75 on the east to Southwest 195th Avenue on the west, and from Miramar Parkway on the north to Southwest 54th Court on the south along the Broward and Miami-Dade county line.

The break prompted a shut-off of the water supply which resulted in low water pressure. The Miramar Utilities Department is advising all affected consumers to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using until further notice. Bottled water is also an option until then.

The boil-water notice will remain in effect until bacterial tests show two consecutive days of positive water quality results.
