SerVermont - Vermont Foodbank, Community Assessment

Vermont Foodbank’s (VF) mission is to gather and share quality food & nurture partnerships so that no one in VT will go hungry. VF’s strategic direction includes the vision: everyone in VT has enough food every day, is healthy, & takes action to eliminate hunger & poverty. VF works to further our vision through these goals: optimize organizational capacity; employ innovative solutions to food access; inspire & engage people to take action; and promote health through food & services. 1 in 4 people in VT access VF resources each year. VF distributes 12 million lbs of food yearly through our network of 215 partner agencies statewide & through VF direct distribution programs. Our partners include food shelves, meal sites, schools, hospitals etc. We work with partners to connect resources from the foodbank and other statewide partners to people seeking assistance. We steward connections between our partners & allies in VT’s charitable food & social service networks. VF's various programs support network partners & their communities. The VT Fresh program provides food education that accompany food distributions. The VF works to strengthen sustainable food systems through gleaning & food rescue. The SNAP outreach team spreads awareness about SNAP & assists in the application process. We employ innovative strategies that support equitable food access, acknowledge root causes of hunger, & consider lasting impact. We value collective wisdom & recognize the leadership potential in everyone. We prioritize a culture of self-care in order to sustain ourselves & one another. Together, we impact communities by enhancing food security & addressing the root causes of hunger through outreach, education and by gathering & sharing resources. Our network partner’s experience & reach is essential to our mission. Safety is our top priority for those we serve, our co-workers, & families. We will continue to adapt our workplaces to respond to the changing demands of the pandemic.
