United Way of Larimer County (UWLC) believes that access to quality education is the best way to ensure a strong economy and a vibrant community, with financial stability as a solution to decreasing the need for future social services. By engaging with the community in these areas through volunteerism and philanthropy, United Way supports nonprofit partners that are vital to creating and maintaining a resilient community. The Volunteer Engagement VISTA builds capacity for UWLC’s Communications, Marketing and Engagement department. This department is responsible for increasing the awareness and understanding of UWLC’s work and impact in the community, nurturing nonprofit relationships, supporting philanthropy and volunteerism to achieve greater impact in the community, and working closely with nonprofit partners, community leaders, and municipalities on matching needs, filling gaps, and providing resources to Larimer County stakeholders. In 2018, Fort Collins was ranked the most bike-friendly city in the United States; it’s consistently been named one of the best places to live by Livability, and was ranked 4th Happiest City in America by National Geographic. Fort Collins is located north of Denver and is home to a robust local music scene and several live music venues, in the fall and summer the city hosts several arts and culture festivals that are free and open to the public. Fort Collins is also known for its charming Old Town district that is packed with restaurants, shops, and microbreweries. Colorado boasts 300 days of sunshine and is a haven for both summer and winter sportspeople.
