The Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) is the first professional master’s degree program within the School of Foreign Service (SFS). The two-year, full-time program blends theory and practice to prepare students for leadership and service in a changing world. The goal of the MSFS program is to prepare women and men to be creative leaders in the public, private, and non-profit sectors of international affairs.

MSFS not only teaches its students to understand the historical, political, social, cultural, and economic context of contemporary international relations, it also seeks to instill in them a commitment to service in the international community and an appreciation for the ethical dimension of international affairs. Students develop their knowledge in substantive areas of international relations while sharpening skills such as critical thinking and writing, effective speaking, and quantitative methods of analysis.
