Band Halloween Dance

Hello Band Parents! Our amazing 8th graders have come up with the theme for the Band Dance as Country vs Country Club! We are preparing for the dance on October 14th from 6-8:30 in the cafeteria in MMS but we need your help!

Please sign up below to chaperone, or be on the setup crew, or donate the items that the students have requested for their Halloween candy and more!

The Band Boosters are providing pizza, cookie cake and take-home treat bags.

Buckwheat Festival September 29th, 2023

Bring your uniforms to the Band room as you come into school. Be sure to have your band shoes, socks, hat and uniform. Students will wear their band shirt on the bus and under their uniforms. After you drop your uniform off, you will go to first period.

Schedule

Load bus at 9:00 Time at Fair from 10:00-1:00; Uniforms 1:00 Parade 2:00 If you want to sign your student out, you must do so after the Band finishes the parade. If you are going to sign out a student other than your child, their parents must send a note to the school prior to Sept 28th. We should be back at school by 5:30-6:00 Students are required to stay on the fairgrounds during free time. They will need money for lunch, rides, and snacks or they may bring a lunch or ask Mr. Shaffer to have the school provide a lunch.

UHS SHOWCASE OF BANDS October 9, 2023

Meet at UHS in uniform with instruments out of case @5:00pm. we will perform at 6:05. Students will be dismissed to their parents after the show.

Buckwheat Festival Sept 29

MMS Marching band will be performing in the Preston County Buckwheat Festival on September 29th. Busses will depart the middle school around 9am and return around 5:30 pm.

  • Students should bring uniforms/instruments/equipment to school with them on Friday morning. Bring them to the band room as you come to school then go to first period
    • Band T-shirts should be worn to school the day of the buckwheat festival
    • Uniform pants, uniform jacket should be in garment bag and black socks, black Dinkles shoes in a grocery bag hanging on a hanger and helmet. ( Uniforms will be handed out soon)
    • Majorettes should bring their uniform as decided by their instructor.
    • Students will need money for lunch, games, snacks & rides

If you wish to take your child with you after the parade, you will need to meet the band at the buses, retrieve your child’s items from the bus, and SIGN OUT with Mr. Shaffer. If you plan to sign out a student other than your child, that student’s parents/guardians must send in a note to Mr. Shaffer by September 25, 2022.

Itinerary:

  • 9:00 a.m. Load bus at Mountaineer Middle School.
  • 1:00 p.m. Lineup for parade.
  • 2:00 p.m. Parade
  • 5:30 p.m. (approximately) Return to Mountaineer Middle School. (return time will depend upon our placement in the parade.

MMS Marching Band Fees for 2023/24 School Year

To limit fundraisers for band, Mountaineer asks each student to pay fees each school year:

  • Band fee for general operation.  (ONLY ONE for each family)
  • Uniform rental to clean and care for the band uniforms.
  • Charter fee to cover the higher cost of a charter bus when needed.
  • Percussion fee. (This is for drummers only.)

IF FOR ANY REASON THIS IS A HARDSHIP, let Mr. Shaffer know, and we can work things out to keep students in the program.

Please return this form with a check made payable to “MMS Band Boosters” to Mr. Shaffer by September 28th.

Monongalia County Fair Parade

The band will practice from 9:30-11 at MMS. Students are to take everything they need for the parade home at the end of practice.

Meet at the Book Exchange at 6:45pm

Line up at 7:00pm

Use the same uniform as for the Pirates Game: Band shirt, black shorts, black socks, black Dinkles

The parade is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm

Band Camp Party

The end of summer band/band camp party will be this Thursday, July 27th, beginning at approximately 11:30am. We need parents to sign up to donate the following items:

plates & napkins

drinks (water, soda, and sports drinks or juice)

chips (variety packs of small, single-serve bags)

veggie tray

fruit tray

desserts (the Sign up Genius has slots for cookies, cupcakes & pre-cut brownies or brownie bites, but pre-cut or pre-packages rice crispy treats or other “grab & go” desserts may be substituted)

Pirates Tickets

If you purchased tickets for friends and/or family to attend the Pirates game tomorrow, they will be handed out tomorrow at the stadium prior to the game start. A Remind will be sent tomorrow morning to let you know where in the stadium to go to get your ticket(s). The students’ tickets will be provided to them after their performance.

PIRATE GAME INFORAMTION

Wednesday, July 19th – National Anthem Performance: Updated

  • Arrive at MMS no later at 8:30; Busses start loading at 9:00 am.
  • We will use the Remind app to communicate our arrival time back at MMS after the game. To sign up for our Remind, text @mmsbandb to 81010 :
  • Band t-shirts will be passed out either this week at practice or on Wednesday before we leave for Pittsburgh.
  • Students will wear the Summer Uniform: black Dinkles shoes, black crew socks, black shorts (see Monongalia County Schools dress code for appropriate shorts length), and blue band t-shirt. Band commanders, majorettes, and silks should wear the Summer uniform as decided by their director.
  • Students need to bring a packed lunch with them on the bus. When we arrive at our parking places, the kids will eat their food and then get ready to go to the check-in area. It will be quite a while before they get into the stadium and are able to get concessions, so please don’t forget the packed lunch. WATER ONLY, No sugar drinks, please. PNC Park Policy:Guests are permitted to bring bottled water and food. Each guest is permitted to bring a bag 16x16x8 or smaller. Water bottles should not exceed 24 ounces in size, and must be clear, plastic, sealed and disposable.
  • Students who are not riding the bus home will need to sign out with Mr. Shaffer before they can leave. Please remember that buses will be locked and instruments will be taken back to the school after the game. Please make arrangements to meet the bus back at the school or have someone else get it for them. Each student is responsible for their own instrument.

PNC Protocols

  • PNC is 100% CASHLESS. PNC Park will not accept any cash at all: not for concessions, souvenirs, etc. If your child would like to buy snacks/drinks/souvenirs at the ballpark, they will need to use a Debit/Credit card. Consider purchasing a prepaid visa gift card to send with your child for concessions and souvenirs. There are reverse ATMs at the ballpark but we are not sure how convenient and/or timely those stations will be to access from our seats.
