Merrimack Athletics Complex (MAC)

The Merrimack Athletics Complex is the primary home of the Merrimack Athletic Department.

Located on the south end of the College's campus, the Merrimack Athletics Complex (MAC) houses all of the Department's staff, administrators, coaches and more. In addition, the hub of Merrimack Athletics includes both Lawler Rink and Gallant Arena, as well as Bert Hammel Court, the Volpe Athletic Center, all athletic department offices, varsity locker rooms, the Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Center, Academic Innovation Center, Strength and Conditioning Center, and much more.

Thanks to the generous donation from Richard and Susanna Gallant and the Islanders Hockey Club, the MAC was expanded by 83,000 square feet over the course of 2012-13.

Key components of the expansion included a second full-sized ice rink, a 5,000-square-foot Center for Sports Medicine, a 3,500-square-foot Strength and Conditioning Center, nine additional locker rooms and new offices, and the new Academic Innovation Ceenter.

A second, brand-new lobby was also added as part of the expansion; fans, coaches, administrators and visitors can now enter either through the DiCroce Family Lobby on the north side of the building, or the original entry through the Schelzi Plaza off Cullen Ave.

Through the new lobby, visitors will be greeted by a brand-new Merrimack College Bookstore, which will house any and all kinds of Merrimack College and Merrimack Athletics merchandise. Next door, a new Dunkin' Donuts awaits, with a brand-new Pro Shop adjacent to that, as well.

Fans that enter through the old entrance will still enjoy the scenic Rocco Shelzi Memorial Plaza, which was renamed in 2009 on the eve of the grand opening of the newly renovated Lawler Rink. The entranceway is lighted and features granite benches and the Merrimack College seal. In 2013, new landscaping was added in conjunction with the conclusion of the Merrimack Athletic Center Expansion Project.
