The Future of Digital Health

4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Room: Pinnacle Ballroom

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and other national and global organizations have identified advanced digital technology as a revolutionary key to radically improving individual health and well-being, population-wide health strategies, and “learning health systems” where knowledge and insights are generated in near real-time and drive continuous improvement. Despite rapid advancements in digital medicine (in terms of devices and software) US healthcare faces major roadblocks to fully developing and adopting Digital Health, including: (i) a lack of acceptable data sharing frameworks and data science methods to meet healthcare data challenges, (ii) a reactive healthcare delivery model focused on acute medical care rather than being proactive and preventive, (iii) a severe shortage of qualified healthcare delivery and data management workers. Advancement in digital health has the potential to transform US healthcare from being episodic and reactive to continuous, personalized, predictive, participative, and preventive.
