Families, community invited to attend WVU Walk with a Future Doc Pediatric Day event

Children and their families are invited to participate in games, activities and enjoy healthy snacks while interacting with West Virginia University School of Medicine physicians and students on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Edith Barill Riverfront Park and Trail in Star City.

The Walk with a Future Doc program is hosting a free Pediatric Day event, open for all families with elementary-aged children and anyone interested in getting active.

In addition to the child-focused interactive programming, those in attendance will gain ideas for nutritious school lunches from Treah Haggerty, M.D., an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine.

The walk itself will start after Dr. Haggerty’s discussion and is a 20-minute, self-paced opportunity to have informal and informative conversations with School of Medicine M.D. students and WVU Medicine healthcare providers while getting moving.

After the walk, games and activities will be at the walk’s starting point at the park’s waterfront gazebo.

The student-led program hosts walks on the first and third Saturdays of each month during the academic year. The walks are held in a hybrid format, giving participants the opportunity to walk as a group in-person in Morgantown, or to walk along with the group at home virtually via Zoom.

In March 2020, a group of medical students launched WVU’s Walk with a Future Doc program. The program is a chapter of the national nonprofit Walk with a Doc and is entirely led and organized by medical students.

To receive emails with all the information for each walk, including the Zoom link to join virtually, you can sign up for the WVU Walk with a Future Doc Newsletter.
