Geneva Hall-Shelton
Corporate Responsibility Manager,

"Everything that we're doing to move the needle in terms of workforce development and racial inequality speaks to my heart...We have to be able to make an impact every day."

In her role as Corporate Responsibility Manager at Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), and as a native Atlantan, Geneva Hall-Shelton has brought her passion for creating positive change to causes both around her hometown and globally for many years. Geneva values CareerRise’s ability to collaborate with key regional partners as well as its efforts to incorporate systems change and racial equity & inclusion as components in our workforce investment programs.

With over 5,900 hotels worldwide, IHG is committed to helping those in need regain employment or spark the beginning of a new career. True Hospitality for Good, IHG’s flagship philanthropic program, is a great representation of IHG’s giving philosophy. “The program drives positive change in the local communities we serve and leverages the skills we have as a business to form strategic charitable partnerships that can help us deliver action on hospitality skills-building, disaster relief, and environmental sustainability,” Geneva explains. “It's both an opportunity and a responsibility to make an impact in local communities wherever we operate.”

As a funder, Geneva represents IHG on our Leadership Council and guides CareerRise’s strategy and investment decision-making. Geneva's love for Atlanta and her work at IHG is evident in her commitment to empowering individuals and families in local communities to thrive as she seeks to make an impact every day. And that makes us fortunate to have her on our team.

Our Work
Atlanta CareerRise Investments
In July 2020, Atlanta CareerRise awarded approximately $500,000 to support six workforce training programs committed to advancing racial equity and inclusion (REI) through their programming. All programs are also focused on moving un- and underemployed individuals towards sustainable wage careers in high-growth industry sectors. Career Compass Academy
This July, Metro Atlanta Industry Partnerships and WorkSource Metro Atlanta launched the Career Compass Academy (CCA), a virtual career exploration and work readiness youth program. CCA is a 5 week, 43-hour program consisting of 15 live webinars and 36 modules via Skills to Succeed Academy by Accenture. Career Explorers learned about careers in Healthcare, IT, and Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (TDL), how to write resumes and cover letters, how to ace an interview, and tips on how to succeed once you have landed the job. The Fall session of the program began this week. For more information or to share your expertise on a panel, email Jacque Joyce.
MAIP & AeroATL Virtual Career and Resource Fair
CareerRise's Metro Atlanta Industry Partnerships (MAIP), in collaboration with Aerotropolis Atlanta and Goodwill of North Georgia, held its first Virtual Career and Resource Fair in September. The fair attracted 38 employers, including Amazon, MARTA, City of Atlanta, and many more, as well as 13 resource providers, such as WorkSource Metro Atlanta and Georgia Commute Options. Over 1,000 job seekers attended the fair from across Southwest Metro Atlanta. We look forward to bringing the same level of success to future events across other sub-regions in Metro Atlanta. If you are interested in participating in future fairs, email us at to get connected.
