Dear Cobble Hill Family,
It is now mid April and spring is in the air! We were getting closer to the end of the year, and with that in mind we have been ramping up our supports and refining our protocols in order to ensure better student experiences. In order to address the student concern that there was not enough independent work time during the day, we added an asynchronous period a day in addition to the lunch period. Students do not need to log in to their zoom and teachers do not need to take attendance for asynchronous periods. However, teachers are always on zoom or google meets during scheduled asynchronous periods so that can conduct small group or individual instruction for any students who choose to participate. Additionally, we encourage all students to log into their zoom meetings. I have visited many lively, fun and well attended zoom meetings over the course of the year. The zoom meetings help students to understand the concepts and skills being taught and allow students to construct meaning for themselves. However, if students are not able to attend all the instructional materials and lessons need to be available on google classroom. Lessons need to be flexible enough that they can be accessed either online, in meetings, and even in paper form. Assignments need to be meaningful and not overwhelming. If you are experiencing an overwhelming amount of work being assigned, please contact me at amule@schools.nyc.gov. Cobble Hill faculty have been working hard and are responsive and reflective. We will continue to adapt and make changes if we know that there are challenges at hand. So, please do not hesitate to let us know positive as well as any negative experiences you may encounter.
If you are still interested in attending school in person for the rest of the year, please let me know as soon as possible. While all classes are conducted remotely, in school students have access to internet, technology and can receive support from school personnel.
I am also looking forward to meeting all of our students this week at our grade level assemblies and I encourage all students to attend afterschool clubs and activities. Additionally, Summer Youth applications are currently available. Please reach out to Ms. Vemic for more information.
Please remember that the end of the marking period is April 30. There are no new assignments for this marking period after April 23rd. Please let me know if you are experiencing any challenges or concerns with any of your classes. I can be easily reached at amule@schools.nyc.gov.
Be positive, be strong and be resourceful! You are all rock stars!
Warmly,
Anna Maria Mule’
