CARES ACT Funds:

In accordance with U.S. Department of Education guidance, UTRGV will provide HEERF II & III financial aid grants to  its students, prioritizing those with exceptional need for grant awards. Students may use the award to help with any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, healthcare (including mental health care) or child-care. For purposes of awarding HEERF II & III financial aid grants, UTRGV has identified and prioritized students with a zero expected family contribution (EFC), as determined by their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as students with exceptional need. 

Can the Spring 22 Module II Grant be combined with any other UTRGV institutional scholarships or graduate assistantships?

Yes. This grant can be combined with other UTRGV institutional scholarships or assistantships, such as the Graduate Select Scholarship or the UTRGV Employee Tuition Assistance Program.

If I am a UTRGV employee, can I receive this grant?

Yes, UTRGV employees can receive this grant in addition to the UTRGV Employee Tuition Assistance Program.

Do I need to apply to receive Spring 22 Module II Grant?

No application is required. UTRGV will identify students who meet the enrollment and eligibility criteria.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring your Student ID (or driver's license) and Vaccine Card.


What if I got my 1st and 2nd dose somewhere else?

No problem! You can get your booster shot/3rd dose with UTRGV. Just bring your ID and Vaccine Card.


What if I got Johnson & Johnson?

According to the CDC’s latest recommendations, eligible individuals may now “mix and match” or choose which vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson) they receive as a booster dose. Please note that UT Health RGV is not currently administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. However, people aged 18+ who initially got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can get a booster dose of either Pfizer or Moderna at least two months after their initial shot.


Mix and Match

According to CDC recommendations, individuals can mix and match  their booster shot/3rd dose.

If you received a vaccine other than Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson, you are eligible to receive your booster shot/3rd dose at a UT Health RGV vaccination site. Please bring your ID and Vaccine Card.

No FAFSA? No Problem.

It's always a great idea to have a FAFSA on file should scholarships or grants become available.  Students who do not have a FAFSA on file or have an expected family contribution (EFC) as determined by their FAFSA of $1 or greater are eligible for up to $1,900!

What exactly is $1,000 Grad Bonus?

Students eligible for the Grad Bonus (see below for eligibility criteria) will receive up to $1,000 for spring. This is not a loan and will not need to be repaid.

Who is eligible for this award?

All GRADUATE students (both traditional and online) who meet the enrollment criteria are eligible for this award – this includes international students and students in Accelerated Online Programs. Undergraduates, School of Medicine and School of Podiatric Medicine students are NOT eligible for this award.

How many hours do I need to enroll in to qualify?

Graduate students must enroll in six hours or more for Spring 2023 (combination of Spring Module 1 and Spring Module 2).

Do I need to enroll for classes by a certain date in order to qualify?

Traditional students must be enrolled by January 17th. Accelerated Online students January 11th for Module I, and March 8th for Module II.

How will I receive this award?

Eligible students meeting the eligibility criteria will have the award offered in their financial aid package. To accept your award:

1. Log in to: https://my.utrgv.edu (with your username and password)

2. Click - ASSIST under My Applications

3. Click - Financial Aid from the menu

4. Select - Award Year 2022-2023 from the dropdown menu 

5. Click - Award Offer

6. Click - Accept from the Take Action drop down menu

7. Click - Submit

8. After carefully reading the Terms and Conditions click the radio box to acknowledge

9. Final Step - Click Accept Award

When will I receive this award?

Students who have accepted the award and meet the eligibility criteria will have the award applied prior to Spring tuition due date.

Do I need to apply for financial aid (FAFSA or TASFA) in order to be eligible for this award

No, a financial aid application is not required.

Will I receive a partial award if I enroll in less than the required number of hours for the semester?

No, there are no partial awards for less than the required number of hours of enrollment.

What if I need less than the required number of hours to graduate in Spring 2023?

An exception may be made if you submit a Spring 2023 graduation application and your DegreeWorks reflects less credit hours than the required number needed to graduate. Contact scholarships@utrgv.edu.

Do hours in graduate certificate programs count towards the required number of hours for this award?

Yes, enrollment in courses towards graduate certificate programs will be counted towards the enrollment requirement.

Can my $1,000 Grad Bonus award be less than $1,000?

Yes, the award amount can be less than $1,000 based on other need-based financial aid awards.
