Air Force One departs Syracuse after Biden pays respects to family

Air Force One has departed from Syracuse’s Hancock Air National Guard base after President Joe Biden’s private family visit to Fairmount.

The plane left about 2:20 p.m.

The president’s brother-in-law, Michael E. Hunter, died last week. Hunter Biden joined his father for the quick trip Saturday.

There were no public appearances on the schedule. The visit disrupted traffic at the airport and in the Camillus area.

Photographer Gregg Ordon and others watched Air Force One from the observation parking lot at Syracuse’s Hancock Airport. The plane, parked in front of the 174th Attack Wing’s hangar, was on display while the motorcade ushered the president around the Syracuse suburbs.

Ordon, who is training to be a pilot, said he can only imagine flying Air Force One in simulation. He wanted to see it take off and share photos with friends.

“Something about seeing Air Force One is kind of cool,” he said.
