NY Cannabis Insider’s week in legal weed for Feb. 4, 2023

This week from NY Cannabis Insider, writers published stories covering different evolving aspects and profiles in the marijuana industry.

NY Cannabis Insider posted a Q&A with James Jordan, the CEO of Cultavision, LLC, an organization with the goal of obtaining a cannabis processor license with the Office of Cannabis Management. Jordan founded his company with the intention of providing high-quality cannabis to dispensaries in New York State. Though he only joined the legal cannabis space in 2019, he had been drawn to the industry back in 2015, after visiting a friend in California when it was in the process of being legalized there.

Reporter Sean Teehan covered the most recent update in the Variscite NY One lawsuit. On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Gary Sharpe denied motions to drop an injunction issued in five regions of the state. This impacts CAURD program applicants who may not be from the state but were still incriminated.

For a new series we’re calling “The story behind,” freelance reporter Will Fritz covered the mission of the Bronx Cannabis Hub, an organization dedicated to fighting for those hurt by marijuana prohibition. The nonprofit is a subset of The Bronx Defenders, which is a larger social justice group that seeks justice for disadvantaged New Yorkers.

NY Cannabis Insider Editor and Publisher Brad Racino wrote a story about a study published in part by the OCM. The observational study analyzed data of over 8,000 New Yorkers from 2017 – 2019 and saw a statistically significant reduction in prescription opioid doses among patients who were on long-term opioid treatment and used medical cannabis.

That’s all for this week, but get ready – we’ve got a very busy week’s worth of stories starting Monday.
