Skyline Apartments declared ‘unfit’; tenants without hot water for days

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse officials Thursday declared the 13-story Skyline Apartments “unfit” because tenants don’t have hot water.

The city has been in contact with Green National, the company that owns the apartment building on James Street, about the water service since Tuesday, officials said.

Green National, founded by former football legend Tim Green, told city officials it has secured a licensed contractor for the repairs, officials said.

The city ordered rent not to be paid to the owners until hot water is restored.

Louise Jones, a tenant at the apartments for five months now, said she has been without hot water since Sunday.

She said the only communication from management about the issue came from handwritten signs posted in the building’s elevators and on its entrances.

“Boiler issue. Will be fixed ASAP,” Jones said the note read.

“It’s really horrible,” Jones told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard. “It has led me to washing with water that feels like they poured over ice.”

A Syracuse judge in December ordered Green National to pay out thousands in fines for failure to make necessary fixes. The company had already paid $300,000 in fines for past lapses.
