A Syracuse horror movie festival is returning for its final year this spring.
The 2023 Salt City Horror Film Festival will take place Saturday, May 13, at the Palace Theatre on James Street in Eastwood. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., and the first film starts at 11 a.m.
The fest will feature seven movies shown on original 35mm print, a staple of the event since its inception in 2010. Screenings include the classics “The Haunting” (60th anniversary), “Mausoleum” (40th anniversary), and Stephen King’s “Cujo” (40th anniversary), plus “Scream Bloody Murder,” “Chamber Of Horrors,” “Thrilling Bloody Sword” and the recently released Ti West thriller, “Pearl,” starring Mia Goth.
Tickets are on sale now through saltcityhorrorfest.com and afterdarkpresents.com. Prices are $35 in advance or $55 for a package that includes a commemorative poster; additional fees may apply.
A full event schedule will be posted online a week before the event.
Patrons under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
A rep for After Dark Presents said the festival is shutting down due to family obligations, plus increased costs to curate and produce the event annually. Organizers will still continue genre film screenings under their successful Reckless Cinema brand in theaters & drive-In’s throughout Upstate New York, including an April 18 “Evil Dead II” event in Buffalo with Bruce Campbell.
