You can’t question Stefon Diggs’ passion.

The Buffalo Bills’ top receiver was clearly fed up with how the team’s 2022 season ended.

On the sidelines, Diggs chirped in the direction of Josh Allen as it was clear that the team’s season was all but over. At the final whistle, Diggs wanted to get out of Highmark Stadium as quickly as possible.

Diggs reportedly stormed out of the locker room past a group of media members before some coaches had even made it to the locker room. The receiver had to be retrieved and brought back into the room by veteran running back Duke Johnson. Diggs would stay for Sean McDermott’s postgame speech and leave shortly thereafter.

Head coach Sean McDermott defended Diggs postgame.

“He’s a competitive guy,” McDermott told the media. “That’s what makes him good is what you saw. He’s very competitive like we all are. We work extremely hard at these jobs to be the best we can possibly be, and it hurts. I wouldn’t want a guy that doesn’t hurt, right? So when you put it all on the line out there, we put it all on the line, and tonight it wasn’t good enough. That’s the part that stings.”

On Monday, McDermott said that Diggs was in the building on Monday and that the two talked. Buffalo’s head coach did not reveal any details about the conversation.

The media did not hear from Diggs on Monday, but the wide receiver finally opened up about what happened on social media.

Simply put, Diggs is not okay with losing when the team does not play up to their normal standards. In a series of tweets, Diggs said the following on his postgame reaction.

“Want me to be okay with losing? Nah,” Diggs said. “Want me to be okay with our level of play when it’s not up to the standard? Nah. It’s easy to criticize my reaction more than the result.”

Diggs finished the regular season with 108 receptions for 1,429 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns in 16 games. Despite having one of the best seasons of his career, it’s understandable as to why Diggs’ frustration may have bubbled over on Sunday. After recording six 100-plus yard outings in the team’s first nine games, Diggs only had two 100-plus yard outings beyond that point, one in the team’s regular season finale against the Patriots and on Wild Card Weekend against the Miami Dolphins.

When teams started to take Diggs away from Buffalo, the Bills struggled to come up with adjustments to get him more involved in the offense. Josh Allen told the media following the team’s 27-10 loss to the Bengals that the team needs to figure out how to do a better job of getting the ball to Diggs consistently in the future.

At the end of the day, Diggs wants to do his part to help the Bills win in big games. After failing to reach the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season, Diggs knows that something needs to change for Buffalo to get over the hump.
