Van Buren, N.Y. — A man was arrested Tuesday and charged with killing his mother who was found dead at a Van Buren condo, troopers said.

Daniel D. Chilson, 43, was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence after Leora A. Chilson, 74, was found dead inside her bedroom, state police spokesman Trooper Jack Keller said.

Leora Chilson’s daughter called 911 around 9:39 a.m. Tuesday to report her mother was dead and had a pillow over her head at the Village Green Condos at 684 Idlewood Boulevard North, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

The daughter and another son went to the home to check on their mother, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said. She hadn’t appeared at work, he said.

She was a daycare worker for the Jordan Methodist Church at the JE Country Kids Day Care, Keller said.

Dispatchers told officers there was a fight reported between the daughter and Daniel Chilson. The daughter said her brother had murdered her mother, dispatchers told officers.

Daniel Chilson lived with his mother, Keller said. He was arrested at the condo, he said.

Daniel Chilson is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday morning, Keller said.
