Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse women’s basketball team wrapped up its two-game road trip with a 60-58 comeback win against Yale in the John J. Lee Amphitheatre on Sunday afternoon.
The Orange erased a 12-point halftime deficit behind double-digit scoring figures from senior guard Dyaisha Fair and graduate center Dariauna Lewis in what was the first road win for Felish Legette-Jack’s team.
Fair scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half. Syracuse secured the win despite being held to a season low 60 points.
WHEN IT WAS DECIDED: The second half began with Syracuse trailing Yale, 37-25. The Orange cut the Bulldog lead to three before the fourth quarter, as four free throws at the end of the third put Syracuse in striking distance.
With 6:23 left in the game, Syracuse went on a 5-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 56-54. After both teams traded baskets to level the score at 58, SU won the game after Fair found Lewis for a layup on the fast break.
Yale missed its final three field goals in the last 11 seconds of the game.
”I coach tough teams, blue collar teams,” Legette-Jack said after the game. “In the second half we played tough ball, and the toughest team won.”
WONDER WOOLLEY:Sophomore guard Georgia Woolley registered a season-high 11 points. The Brisbane, Australian native went 6-7 from the free-throw line and knocked down a 3-point field goal.
GETTING A SECOND CHANCE: Syracuse was rewarded for its hustle and intensity, as the Orange scored 16 second-chance points. Yale only scored seven second-chance points.
UP NEXT: Syracuse kicks off a four-game homestand with a 7 p.m. game against Coppin State on Thursday in the JMA Wireless Dome. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
