Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football is headed to the Big Apple for its first bowl appearance since 2018.
The Orange will play Minnesota in the Pinstripe Bowl at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, the program confirmed Sunday afternoon.
Brett McMurphy of Action Network HQ first reported the news.
This will be SU’s third appearance in New York’s only bowl game. It holds a 2-0 record in the bowl having appeared in its inaugural year (2010) against Kansas State and again two years later against West Virginia.
Syracuse (7-5, 4-4 ACC) snapped a five-game losing streak with a road win at Boston College to close the regular season last weekend. SU became bowl eligible in Week 7 after beating N.C. State for its sixth-straight win.
Minnesota (8-4, 5-4 Big Ten) closed its regular-season slate with a 23-16 win over Wisconsin.
The two teams had one common opponent this season in Purdue. SU beat the Boilermakers in a 32-29 fourth-quarter thriller while Minnesota lost to them 20-10.
The Orange and the Gophers have met five times in their history. The most recent matchup was the 2013 Texas Bowl, which SU won 21-17. Though Syracuse has won just two of the contests, all have been decided by 10 points or fewer.
Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle served as Syracuse’s AD for less than a year before leaving for the Big Ten school.
During his brief tenure in Syracuse, Coyle hired Dino Babers in December 2015, then left before Babers even coached a game.
