Community rallies behind Clay family after house fire that killed 2

Clay, N.Y. — Relatives and businesses are rallying this week after a house fire in Clay killed two people.

Nezamiyah White, 8, and Anthony Wild, 76, were identified as the victims of the fire at 124 Lawdon St. on Tuesday night.

Family members have started a gofundme campaign that had surpassed $24,000 in donations this morning. Nezamiyah loved gymnastics and could do “cartwheels for hours,” the fundraiser’s page said.

The donations are to help with funeral arrangements, the page said.

Peace, Love and Cupcakes, a downtown Syracuse bakery, said it is accepting in-person food donations for the family.

“Together we can try and make the days, weeks, and months ahead a little bit easier,” the bakery said on Facebook.

II Limon Liverpool, an Italian restaurant, is collecting money donations to go toward the family’s funeral expenses, the restaurant also posted on social media.

“Nezy was a bright girl who was always smiling,” the restaurant’s Facebook post said. “Her laugh was contagious and she was an absolutely wonderful friend.”
