Queensbury, N.Y. — The head gardener for Rockefeller Center was driving through an Upstate New York town this spring when he saw it: the Tree.
The top of the glorious Norway Spruce was just visible over the top of a couple of stores in Queensbury, a town just south of Lake George. Erik Pauze was on his way to Glens Falls to check out another contender for Rockefeller’s 2022 Christmas tree, he told The Center Magazine, and promised himself he’d come back to scout the towering tree.
Pauze wasn’t disappointed when he returned to the lot.
“When I got closer, I knew it was perfect,” he said. “I figured, let’s get this one to Rockefeller Center.”
The tree is 82 feet tall and weighs about 14 tons, according to the Rockefeller Center. It’s being donated by the Lebowitz family, reported WNBC, and is believed to be about 85 years old.
The Queensbury tree will be cut down on Nov. 10 before being trucked to Manhattan, where it’s set to arrive on Nov. 12. It will be lit in a live ceremony on Nov. 30.
