Matt Sheppard continues his dominant 2022 season with Outlaw 200 win in Fulton

Sheppard win

Matt Sheppard won the 35th annual Outlaw 200 for modified stock cars at the Fulton Speedway on Saturday night.

Matt Sheppard’s magical 2022 racing season continued to roll along in high gear Saturday night, when the Savannah driver won the 35th annual Outlaw 200 for modified stock cars at the Fulton Speedway.

Sheppard picked up a $20,000 check for his efforts on the 3/8th-mile Fulton oval. The victor has been the dominant force in dirt modified racing in 2022, but he had his hands full with Mat Williamson throughout Fulton’s main event.

Starting on the outside pole in the huge, 44-car starting field, Sheppard grabbed the top spot and led for more than 80 laps. Williamson, a Canadian from St. Catherines, Ontario, then took over first and picked up a $1,000 bonus for leading at the mid-race break.

Sheppard, Chad Phelps, Chris Hile and polesitter Mike Mahaney followed Williamson at the halfway break.

The second half of the 200 saw Sheppard keeping the pressure on the leader, and with 50 laps remaining, Sheppard retook the lead and rolled to the $20,000 triumph.

Williamson kept Sheppard in sight but had to settle for second, with Mahaney, Billy Dunn, Chad Phelps, Larry Wight, Tim Sears Jr., Billy Decker, Chris Hile and Ryan Susice completing the top-10 finishers, respectively.

SPORTSMAN 50: The 50-lap main event for crate sportsman saw Zach Sobotka notch a wire-to-wire victory. Ryan Dolbear was second, with David Rogers and Tyler Corcoran making up the top-four finishers.

66 modifieds and 72 sportsman were on hand for the Outlaw 200 finale for Fulton’s 2022 season.

U.S. OPEN: The Race of Champion’s Modified Tour wrapped up their 2022 campaign with a 75-lap feature event Saturday afternoon at the Lancaster Speedway outside of Buffalo.

Matt Hirschman came away with the win, followed Patrick Emerling and Austin Beers.
