Syracuse, N.Y. — A 21-year-old man wanted for a June murder was arrested in Las Vegas Thursday, police say.

Kaivion Strong, of Syracuse, was wanted for the murder of Dasheem East, according to a news release Saturday from Syracuse police.

East was shot around 9:30 p.m. on June 20 in the 2000 block of Lodi Street, police said. The city’s Shot Spotter system detected 10 shots fired in the area, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

East was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the following weeks, police requested the public’s help in searching for two suspects who were later revealed to be connected to East’s death.

Arianna Bailey, 19, and Strong were indicted on second-degree murder charges in early August.

Bailey is accused of acting as the driver during the shooting, Assistant District Attorney Michael Whalen said in Syracuse City Court during a bail hearing. Bailey was arrested on Aug. 15, police said.

Strong was still at large until Thursday, police said. Strong was taken into custody by police in Las Vegas, police said.

Strong was involved in a domestic dispute in Las Vegas that resulted in the police being called, police said. On Friday, he was transported to Syracuse, police said.

Strong is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Strong and Bailey are being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center jail, according to inmate records.
