Syracuse, N.Y. -- If you think it has been unusually hot in the Syracuse area, you would be correct.
It’s the hottest start to August on record, according to data collected by the Natonal Weather Service.
The average tempeature was 79.6 degrees for the first eight days of August, according to the weather service. The previous record was 78.8 degrees set in 1930.
Four of the last eight days recorded high temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. The hottest day was Monday at 94 degrees.
This heat wave led the weather service to release a number of heat advisories warning people of the risks associated with extreme temperatures and high humidity.
Temperatures finally dropped Tuesday morning as rounds of thunderstorms rolled through the region, according to the weather service. A high of 75 degrees is forecast for today.
Temperatures are forecast to reach the high 70s or low 80s during the day this week with nighttime lows expected in the high 50s to low 60s.
