Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man has been accused of trying to kill a 19-year-old by shooting him in the head in June, police said.

Tondell R. Husein, 24, shot the man in the head in the 600 block of East Division Street on June 10, police said in a criminal complaint filed in City Court. He was charged Friday.

The man shot is 19-years-old, said Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a spokesperson for Syracuse police.

Husein fired several shots toward the man from a car, hitting him in the head, police said.

Police identified Husein and his vehicle from video footage, police said in court papers. Officers searched his vehicle and found casings that were linked to those found at the scene, they said. Police also said he admitted driving the vehicle.

The man shot nearly died and sustained a “life-altering injury,” police said in court papers.

Husein was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond, according to jail records.
