Syracuse, N.Y. ― JP Estrella, a highly-rated recruit in the 2023 class, has set a date for his college commitment.
Estrella, a 6-foot-11 center from South Portland, Maine,
Estrella will announce his college choice on Sept. 2, according to the Instagram post. He is set to attend Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., this year. Brewster’s move-in date is Sept. 4.
Estrella just completed an official visit to Syracuse this past Thursday through Saturday. He described that visit, including a golf outing with SU guard Joe Girard and all three of SU’s assistant coaches, in this article.
A year ago, Estrella attended SU’s Elite Camp after which he received an official scholarship offer from SU coach Jim Boeheim. It was Estrella’s first offer from a Division I school.
Estrella has also visited Iowa, Tennessee and Marquette. In his Instagram post, Estrella said he would trim down his list of schools in the coming weeks. Kansas and Gonzaga are among several other suitors.
Estrella averaged 20.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game at South Portland (Maine) High School.
He is ranked as the No. 16 prospect in the 2023 class by on3.com and No. 54 in the class by 247Sports.com, but his profile has been on the rise over the past year. He has grown eight inches since his freshman year of high school. He recently took part in the NBA Top 100 camp.
