Syracuse, N.Y. — Two more of the Mets’ top prospects have been promoted to the organization’s Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse.
Brett Baty, the organization’s second-ranked prospect, and José Butto, the 12th-ranked prospect, will be making the move from Binghamton to Syracuse.
In 89 games at the Double-A level, Baty hit .312 with 109 hits, 19 home runs, 22 doubles, 59 RBIs and had a .950 on-base plus slugging percentage. Baty has hit 16 of those home runs in the last 53 games while posting a .351 batting average.
Baty ranked second in the Double-A Eastern League in batting average and led the league in on-base plus slugging percentage and hits.
Baty joined the Mets organization after being drafted 12th overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. Baty was the first high school third baseman the team drafted in the first round since David Wright in 2001.
Butto has made 20 appearances on the mound in Double-A and has a 6-5 record with a 4.00 ERA in 92 1/3 innings pitched. The right-hander has accumulated 108 strikeouts, which ranks fifth in the Eastern League.
Butto joined the Mets as an international free agent out of Venezuela after signing a contract in 2017.
The Triple-A Mets now have five of the organization’s top eight prospects on their roster according to MLB Pipeline: Francisco Álvarez (No. 1), Brett Baty (2), Mark Vientos (5), Khalil Lee (7) and Nick Plummer (8).
Syracuse begins a six-game series against the Buffalo Bisons at home on Tuesday.
