Liverpool, N.Y. — A Liverpool man involved in a fatal high-speed crash in Oneida County has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

Rakwan D. Marshall, 24, was sentenced Wednesday to 5 to 15 years for killing two people in a crash in Boonville in 2020, according to Oneida County District Attorney Scott D. McNamara.

He was also sentenced to 7 years for injuring a third person in the crash, McNamara said.

All three sentences will run concurrently, meaning Marshall will serve between 7 and 15 years in prison.

In September 2020, Marshall was driving a 2020 Mercedes south on Route 12, according to State Police. Marshall drove into the northbound lane in an attempt to pass another car, troopers said.

Marshall’s car struck a 2010 Crysler Sebring head-on, troopers said.

Prosecutors believe that the Mercedes was traveling at around 103 mph, McNamara said.

A front passenger in the Sebring, Cary A. Croniser, 42, of Boonville, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver, Sarah J. Stinebrickner, 38, was injured but survived the crash, troopers said.

Marshall’s passenger, 19-year-old Yairis Brito, was injured in the crash and later died as a result of those injuries, McNamara said.
