Syracuse, N.Y. — A 21-year-old woman was fatally shot Tuesday night by her ex-boyfriend who later shot and killed himself near the Syracuse airport, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said Wednesday.
The shooting happened at 11:20 p.m. in an apartment complex at 8 Stone Court, said Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a spokesperson for the Syracuse police. Stone Court is near Skiddy Park.
The ex-boyfriend was Michael Brantley, 44, Fitzpatrick said.
Brantley, of Syracuse, shot the woman in the head and shot the woman’s 18-year-old brother in the leg and midsection, police said. The woman’s small child was inside the apartment at the time she was killed, Fitzpatrick said.
The woman, whose identity has not been released by Syracuse police or the DA’s office, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her brother was taken to Upstate University Hospital and is expected to survive, Malinowski said.
Brantley was later found in his car near the Hancock International Airport with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Fitzpatrick said. Brantley was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he died, he said.
