Syracuse, N.Y. -- The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. across New York for Tuesday’s primary elections.
In Onondaga County, the ballots will be short. Democrats will chose among three people for both their candidate for governor and for lieutenant governor. Republican voters will pick among four people who want to be the GOP gubernatorial candidate. (See names below.)
Republicans in Pompey also have a local primary to weigh in on.
Here’s what you need to know for Tuesday:
Who can vote
To vote in Tuesday’s primaries, you must be registered in a political party. That means Democrats can vote for Democratic Party candidates and Republicans can vote for Republican Party candidates.

Who is on the ballot
Democrats:
Governor (Vote for 1) Thomas R. Suozzi, Kathy C. Hochul or Jumaane D. Williams
Lieutenant Governor (Vote for 1) Ana Maria Archila, Diana Reyna or Antonio Delgado.
Republicans:
Governor (Vote for 1) Rob Astorino, Andrew Giuliani, Harry Wilson or Lee Zeldin.
District Level County Committee in Town of Pompey:
- District 1 (Vote for 2) Alma M. Hartnett, Rebecca E. Campbell, Deborah A. Grenier, or Mark T. Nardella
- District 5 (Vote for 2) Craig S. Dennis, Laurence A. Wangerman or Carl Dennis
- District 6 (Vote for 2) John A. Repak, Gregory P. Herlihy or Thomas L. Henry

Absentee information
As of Sunday, 2,157 voters had turned in absentee ballots in Onondaga County. Of those, 1,488 were from Democratic voters and 669 were from Republicans, according to the county board of elections.
- Today is the last day to apply in-person for absentee ballot.
- Tuesday is the last day to postmark ballot. It must be received by the local board of elections no later than July 5.
- Tuesday is also the last day to deliver ballot in-person to the local board of elections or to any poll site in your county.
Early voting
Sunday was the last day of early voting across New York. And in Onondaga County, early voting this June broke records, according to the board of elections.
This year, 2,761 voters cast ballots during the nine days of early voting. That’s an all-time high for a June primary. In 2020, 1,172 voted in the June presidential primary.
Early voting is relatively new in New York. It began in 2019.
There is no early voting today.
What about congressional and state senate races?
Those are being held Aug. 23. They were delayed because of court battles over newly drawn district lines.
