Police ID man who died after being shot several times on Midland Avenue

Syracuse, N.Y. — Police have identified the man who died after being shot several times and then crashing a car on Midland Avenue Friday.

Ramir Martin, 22, was shot multiple times in the midsection and found in a car crashed into a tree on the 1400 block of Midland Avenue at 1:44p.m., Friday, said Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a spokesperson for the Syracuse police.

Martin was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he later died, Malinowski said.

Officers also found a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the leg in front of a nearby residence at 1408 Midland Ave., Malinowski said. The man was also taken to Upstate University Hospital, and is expected to survive.

Dozens of Syracuse officers taped off several city blocks of Midland Avenue near the 1400 block where multiple gun shell casings were found, Malinowski said.

Darnell Reed, a security guard at Kirk Park, said he heard two separate rounds of gunshots with about 9 shots total. The shootings happened a few blocks away from Kirk Park.

The Syracuse Police Department asks anyone with information about the shootings to call them at 315-442-5222.
