Syracuse, N.Y. — The name of a 20-year-old man fatally shot on the city’s North Side Monday night has been released by police.

Dasheem East, of Syracuse, was shot in the back in the 2000 block of Lodi Street at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, Syracuse police spokesman Lt. Matthew Malinowski said Tuesday afternoon in a news release.

At about 9:34 p.m. Monday, a person called 911 to report their cousin had been shot and was unconscious, but breathing outside of 2023 Lodi St., according to police dispatches. At about the same time, the city’s ShotSpotter system detected 10 shots fired in the area, according to dispatch reports.
