Memorial Day 2022: Our guide to parades, ceremonies across Central New York

Memorial Day is the day we remember those who have died serving in the U.S. military. It’s also the unofficial beginning of the summer.

The holiday is marked by memorial ceremonies, parades, barbecues and family gatherings.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 30.

Here is a guide to celebrations planned across Central New York.

ONONDAGA COUNTY

Baldwinsville

Monday, May 30

9:45 a.m.

There will be a brief ceremony at the Veteran’s memorial in front of the post office, 26 E. Genesee Street, followed by a parade at 10 a.m. Marchers will proceed from the post office to the four corners and travel south to Oswego Street.

The parade will briefly stop on the bridge for a ceremony, then continue down Oswego Street and turn right onto Tappan Street to Riverview Cemetery. A memorial service will follow the parade at the cemetery.

Camillus

Monday, May 30

7:45 a.m.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Camillus Town Hall, 4600 W. Genesee St., followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in the village in front of the Camillus Kayak Shop, 24 Main St. Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Maple Drive and West Genesee St. A final wreath laying ceremony will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in the village.

Cicero

Monday, May 30

Noon

There will be a ceremony at the cemetery, 8554 Brewerton Road followed by the parade at 12:15. Procession begins at the cemetery, proceed down Route 31 and ends at the Cicero American Legion Post 787, 5575 Legionnaire Drive. Following the parade, there will be a ceremony at the legion monument and all are invited to lunch after the ceremony.

East Syracuse

Monday, May 30

1 p.m.

The Arthur Butler 359 American Legion Post will sponsor a parade that starts at the bowling alley and proceeds down West Manlius Street. to the Veteran’s Memorial, where a ceremony will take place.

Elbridge

Monday, May 30

10:30 a.m.

There will be a service at the Elbridge Elementary School, followed by the parade at 11 a.m. The procession will march west on Route 5 (Main Street) from the elementary school to Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Fabius

Monday, May 30

10:30 a.m.

Line up is at the Fabius-Pompey Elementary School, 7800 Main St. A new route this year travels west onto Main Street, east on Academy Street, south onto Ridge Road and then east to Main Street to end at the elementary school. Following the parade there will be a service at the monument on the corner of Keeney Road and Main Street. The Fabius Fire House will host a chicken barbeque at the firehouse, 7825 Main St.

Fayetteville

Monday, May 30

9 a.m.

The parade starts at Highbridge Street and Route 5, proceeds east on Route 5 and ends at Beard Park, South Manlius Street, Fayetteville. A brief ceremony will be held at the park.

Jamesville

Saturday, May 28

11 a.m.

Parade begins on South St. and ends at Jamesville Elementary School. There will be a cookout at the old Jamesville food pantry following the parade.

Jordan

Monday, May 30

2:15 p.m.

Service will be at the Veterans Memorial Park on North Main Street. A parade will follow at 3:05 p.m. following a moment of remembrance at 3 p.m. Following the parade, there will be a Massing of the Bagpipes. Food will be available throughout the village beginning at 11 a.m.

Liverpool

Monday, May 30

9 a.m.

Services will be in Johnson Park with American Legion Post 188, followed by the parade at 10 a.m. The procession will march to the village cemetery and back.

Manlius

Monday, May 30

11 a.m.

Parade begins at the intersection of Route 173 and 92 and ends at 1 Arkie Albanese Ave. There will be a brief ceremony at the village center following the parade.

Marcellus

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

Parade sponsored by The Ralph Share American Legion Post 297 begins at Reed Parkway across from the middle school and ends at the Village Center near Slocum Ave. A memorial ceremony will follow the parade.

Minoa

Monday, May 30

11 a.m.

Parade in the village starts at Lewis Park and goes up Main Street (Costello Parkway), proceeds to Osborne Street to East Avenue. and ends at the village office. There will be a ceremony following the parade at the memorial in front of the village office, 240 N. Main St.

North Syracuse

Monday, May 30

9:30 a.m.

The parade starts at Lonergan park and heads north on NYS Route 11/N. Main St., ending at Veteran’s Memorial Park. VFW Post 7290 will host a Veterans Memorial Service at Veterans Memorial Park (corner of Route 11 and Centerville Place) following the parade.

Onondaga County

Sunday, May 29

10 a.m.

Onondaga County Annual Memorial Day Ceremony “Remember and Honor” at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howlett Hill Road, Onondaga.

Skaneateles

Monday, May 30

8:45 a.m.

There will be a brief ceremony at the flag area at the Skaneateles American Legion Post 239, Wainwright Drive. The parade will kick off at 9 a.m. at the north driveway entrance and proceed north for a ceremony at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The procession will head south to Lakeview Cemetery for another brief ceremony. The last leg will be east to Shotwell Park for a ceremony, guest speaker and flyover.

Solvay

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, 1000 Woods Road. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the Solvay-Geddes Community Youth Center.

CAYUGA COUNTY

Auburn

Monday, May 30

11 a.m.

The parade will proceed west down Genesee Street to Veterans Memorial Park, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial.

Fair Haven

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

The parade goes from the intersection of Main Street and Center Street north to Riverside Cemetery, where there will be a ceremony at the Civil War monument.

Weedsport

Monday, May 30

9 a.m.

The parade begins at the Weedsport Junior/Senior High School Parking lot, 2821 East Brutus St. This will be followed by a ceremony at 9:45 a.m. You may bring a lawn chair or remain in your car. The ceremony will include a watch fire (no evening watch fire this year.)

MADISON COUNTY

Munnsville

Saturday, May 28

10 a.m.

The village-sponsored parade begins at 5210 South Main St. and proceeds north, ending at 5314 N. Main St. Following the parade, the Munnsville American Legion Post 54 will hold its annual Memorial Day Remembrance at Carlon Field.

Canastota

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

Parade sponsored by Canastota VFW Post 600 will begin at the intersection of North Peterboro Street (NYS Route 13) and Wilson Avenue and proceed south through the village, ending at Clark Park at the corner of South Peterboro Street and NYS Route 5. There will be a memorial service at the park following the parade.

Cazenovia

Monday, May 30

11 a.m.

Cazenovia American Legion Post 88 sponsors the parade that will follow a route from Green Street to Lincklaen Street and ends at Cazenovia Memorial Park on Albany Street. A ceremony at the park will follow the parade.

OSWEGO COUNTY

Fulton

Friday, May 27

10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A Memorial Salute to Service will be held at the Fulton War Memorial.

Saturday, May 28

10 a.m.

The parade will begin on S. 4th St., travel Broadway to S. 2nd St., cross the upper bridge and end at the War Memorial.

7 p.m.

Watchfire at the Fulton War Memorial.

Sunday, May 29

Dusk

Fireworks at Lake Neatahwanta.

Hannibal

Monday, May 30

11 a.m.

The Hannibal Memorial Day Celebration will be held in the Village Square with speakers and a presentation of the colors.

Mexico

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

Parade begins at the east end of the village at North St. and Lincoln Ave. and ends at the Mexico Village Cemetery, where there will be a ceremony.

Oswego (city)

Monday, May 30

11 a.m.

Ceremony presented by the Oswego City Veteran’s Council at the Veteran’s Park, West Linear River Walk

Oswego (town)

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

Services will be held at the Oswego Town Rural Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Fruit Valley. The town will be honoring the its Revolutionary War Veterans.

Parish

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

American Legion Post 601 will sponsor the parade that starts at the corner of Rider Road and Route 69 and will proceed to Pleasant Lawn Cemetery on Route 69A. A service will follow at the cemetery with color guard and gun salute.

Phoenix

Monday, May 30

Noon

The parade begins near the Byrne Dairy on Route 57 and will proceed down Main Street to Culvert Street. Field Days will also be held at the VFW Post 5540, 70 Culvert St. all Memorial Day weekend.

Sandy Creek/Lacona

Monday, May 30

9:30 a.m.

A ceremony will be held at Wesleyan Cemetery conducted by Cable Trail Post 8534, Veterans of Foreign Wars. This will be followed by a ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. and a third ceremony at 10:45 a.m. on the village green. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and proceed from the bridge to the VFW Post, 10 Cable Trail, Lacona. A memorial service will follow the parade at the post.
