‘Rust’ producer plans to complete Alec Baldwin film after fatal shooting: Buzz

Alec Baldwin Rust

This still from video released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office shows Alec Baldwin rehearsing with a gun on the set of the Western film "Rust." Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed by a prop gun Baldwin was holding on set in New Mexico on Oct. 21, 2021.

‘Rust’ producer plans to complete film after Alec Baldwin shooting

The show must go on? “Rust” producer Anjul Nigam told The Hollywood Reporter that the Western film will be completed, despite Alec Baldwin’s accidental shooting on the set in October, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin said in November he “sincerely doubt(s)” the movie would ever be finished and released, but Nigam said the plan is to finish it after the Santa Fe County sheriff’s department completes its investigation.

“‘Rust’ is obviously a horrific tragedy,” Nigam told THR. “The investigation will hopefully be resolved soon and will unveil what happened. Obviously, there will be people out there who will have negative perspectives, but we’re confident about continuing to make quality movies. We’re confident we’ll be able to complete the movie.”

Nigam said he and Baldwin are also beginning their next co-production, “False Awakenings,” which will be headed to the Cannes market under their company Persona Entertainment. Both will act in the film, described as a psychological thriller about a man who suffers from intense sleepwalking episodes and the psychologist who attempts to help him.

Baldwin has not commented on Nigam’s plans to finish “Rust.” It’s unclear if he would film more scenes or if the existing footage would be edited to complete the movie. The plot centers on a 13-year-old boy who goes on the run with his estranged grandfather after he’s sentenced to hang for the accidental killing of a local rancher in 1880s Kansas.
