Syracuse, N.Y. -- Long-time Syracuse University athletic trainer Brad Pike, best known for his presence around the Syracuse men’s basketball program, has taken a job with the University of Cincinnati, the school announced on Thursday.

Pike had worked at Syracuse and for the men’s basketball program since 2000, rising to Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine. His position at Cincinnati will be the school’s Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Health and Wellness.

According to the press release from Cincinnati, Pike’s position will include oversight of the school’s entire health and wellness operation in athletics, including medicine, sports psychology and wellness and sports performance departments.

Pike is a 1989 graduate of Marietta College in Ohio. He then earned his Master’s Degree at Syracuse in 1991, working for the Orange as a graduate assistant athletic trainer during that time. He returned to Syracuse in 2000.

Pike was named head athletic trainer and director of sports medicine for the Orange in 2005. He also directed rehabilitation for all of SU’s athletes.

He was part of the ACC’s Medial Advisory Group, which helped guide the conference’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Pike was often praised by SU men’s basketball players over the year, most recently by Bourama Sidibe, who credited Pike with helping him maintain a positive mindset through numerous knee injuries. He was also a key part of the response when former Syracuse player Howard Washington suffered a stroke on campus in 2018.

Cincinnati’s athletic director, John Cunningham, worked briefly at SU after being brought to the school by former AD Mark Coyle.
