Syracuse police charge 22-year-old woman with stabbing 61-year-old man over money

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse police say a 22-year-old woman stabbed a 61-year-old man during a fight over money Monday.

Officers were initially called at 7:47 p.m. to Parkside Commons at 2003 E. Fayette St. for a reported shooting, but police say no one was shot. Instead, they found a man had been stabbed in both legs, Syracuse police spokesman Capt. James Milana said in a news release.

During the investigation, police learned the victim and suspect got into a fight over money, Milana said. Police charged a 22-year-old woman with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Police did not release the woman’s name, however 22-year-old Deja Davis was taken into custody at 9:20 p.m. Monday on the same charges — second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, records show. Davis was sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center and remains in jail Tuesday morning without bail.

The victim’s injuries are not life threatening, Milana said.

“There were no other weapons involved in this incident, and the report of shots fired associated with it was unfounded,” Milana said.
