Syracuse, N.Y. -- Just a year after buying a New York City law firm, Syracuse’s Bond, Schoeneck & King is growing again with the acquisition of a Long Island-based law firm.

Bond said the 23 lawyers at Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella & Yedid will join its staff on June 1. With the move, Bond will add offices in Melville on Long Island and West Palm Beach, Florida, giving it a total 15 offices in five states and 275 lawyers.

The acquisition will give Bond a total of 40 attorneys on Long Island, with its office in Garden City and the new one in Melville.

“Bond and Lazer have discussed combining on and off over several years,” said Kevin Bernstein, chair of Bond’s management committee. “Bond and Lazer are like-minded firms and together we can offer a greater breadth of quality legal services to both client bases.”

“Our culture is a great fit with Bond’s, making this combination something that our attorneys are looking forward to,” Ralph Rosella, managing partner for Lazer. “We have referred services to Bond over the years in practice areas that we didn’t offer and know many of the lawyers professionally and personally.”

Lazer began as a small commercial litigation firm in 1987 and has added services in real estate, general business and corporate law; mergers and acquisitions; debtors’ and creditors’ rights; tax; trust and estate; and banking litigation.

The acquisition comes a year after Bond acquired the New York City law firm of Putney, Twombly, Hall & Hirson. It added Putney’s 15 lawyers to its staff on April 1, 2021.

Founded in 1897, Bond serves individuals, companies, nonprofits and public sector clients in a broad range of practice areas. The firm has 13 offices, with nine in New York state and others in Boston; Kansas City; Red Bank, New Jersey; and Naples, Florida.
