City of Oswego, N.Y. -- A 39-year-old man was arrested after a domestic dispute that led to a 9 1/2 hour standoff with police in the city of Oswego Monday afternoon.

Marcus M. Miller, of the city of Oswego, was charged with first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

Around 12:51 p.m., police responded to the domestic dispute at 57 E. Seventh St., according to a news release from the Oswego city police.

the dispute began over personal property inside the home, police said. During the fight, Miller threatened his family with a shotgun.

Police attempted to make contact with Miller but he refused to leave the house.

A woman and children inside the home came outside immediately, Oswego Police Capt. Damian Waters said Monday. None of the family members were injured during the dispute, he said.

Police established a perimeter around the home and the surrounding block, police said.

Neighbors in the area received a reverse 911 call urging them to “shelter in place.” Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow also warned the public through social media to avoid the area if possible.

After 9 1/2 hours of negotiation and assistance from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Miller finally came out of the house and was quickly taken into custody, police said.

After Miller was detained, officers searched the home and found the loaded shotgun Miller had used to threaten his family.

Miller was officially charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor, police said. He is being held in Oswego County while he awaits his arraignment.

The investigation is still ongoing. Oswego city police ask that anyone with information regarding the incident call (315) 236-4854.
