Syracuse, N.Y. -- The transition back to school after spring break last week has been a hard one at Henninger High School.
Over the past week, Syracuse police and the Syracuse Fire Department have responded to emergencies several times, including four times on Wednesday alone.
On Friday morning, police and fire personnel were called back to the school. Around 10:45 a.m., the fire department responded to reports of a fire in the school.
A fire had been set in a trash can inside the school, school officials said. The school was evacuated and the fire was quickly put out, they said.
This is the second time this week that the school reported a fire.
On Wednesday, an employee was rushing to report the third fire alarm of the day. In their haste, the employee mistakenly reported the alarm as a fire. The report was unfounded and school officials suspect that two of the three alarms were set off by students vaping in the building.
The first alarm that went off on Wednesday was the result of burnt popcorn.
On Friday, while students were leaving the building as a result of the fire, a fight broke out between a group of students and the police were called to break it up.
Several police cars remained at the school after the fight dispersed.
On Wednesday morning, there was a similar occurrence. A fight that occurred earlier that day, which broke out during one of the evacuations, resulted in a threat being posted to social media, school officials said.
The threat warned that people unrelated to the school would show up with weapons, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.
Police took this threat seriously and a large police presence blocked the school parking lot entryway.
Despite the disruptions, the school remained open on Wednesday and plans to remain open today, school officials said.
