Climber trapped on cliffside in Jamesville Quarry rescued

Jamesville, N.Y. – Several Onondaga County fire departments rescued a climber from a Jamesville Quarry Friday night.

Around 9:13 p.m., 911 received reports that a climber was stuck on a cliffside in the Jamesville Quarry near Rock Cut Road, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

The reports came in well after sunset and the climber was stuck on the wall alone in the dark.

The call was originally categorized as a missing person complaint, according to dispatches.

In a photo of the climber, shared by the Syracuse Fire Department, it appears they were stuck without a rope approximately 20 feet from the edge of the cliff.

First responders called in the Syracuse Fire Department for help with the rescue.

Together, the crews worked to perform a technical rope rescue, according to a news release from the Syracuse Fire Department.

Members of an SFD rescue company worked from the side of the cliff to secure and pull the stranded climber to safety.

Around 10 p.m. an ambulance was called to assist at the scene. It is unknown if the climber sustained any injuries.
