Boonville, N.Y. — One of Central New York’s top breweries plans to open a new taproom in an historic inn in downtown Boonville.

Woodland Farm Brewery, which opened in Marcy just north of Utica in January 2016, will take over the ground floor space in the Hulbert House, a historic inn at 106 Main St. in the heart of Boonville, between Routes 46 and 12.

The Hulburt House, which was built around 1812, has long welcomed travelers passing through and stopping in Boonville in northern Oneida County. It closed in 2016, but has recently been renovated and reopened by Carl Vogel, according to a report in the Rome Sentinel. Vogel, owner of Carl’s Wholesale Furniture in New Hartford, is now leasing apartments on the upper floors.

Woodland owners Keith and Katie Redhead are aiming to open the taproom in the “coming months” and are now hiring to fill positions.

The taproom will feature beers that Keith Redhead brews at the existing Woodland Farm Brewery at 6002 Trenton Road, just off Route 12 in Marcy. It will also serve New York state hard ciders and wines, and cocktails made with New York distilled spirits. The taproom, overseen by Katie Redhead, will feature burgers, sandwiches, wraps, flatbread pizzas, and more.

Woodland Farm Brewery won the Readers Choice award for best brewery in Upstate New York in a contest at NYup.com in 2017. It has also won multiple other awards for its beers, which range from “crisp, clean, German inspired lagers to barrel aged beers and everything in between,” according to a Woodland news release.

The release also says Woodland “focuses on brewing beer that tastes like beer.” As a farm brewery, it also sources as many of its ingredients as possible from New York state growers.
