Syracuse, N.Y. — Two shootings were reported within five minutes of each other Saturday night on opposite sides of the city, according to police and Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

The first shooting was reported at about 9:25 p.m. on the North Side and the second happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the Brighton neighborhood, according to 911 dispatch logs.

Police were called to the 200 block of Mary Street for reports that a 17-year-old boy had been shot, Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blake said.

It was reported that the gunfire came from a car that sped away on Mary Street, according to dispatches.

The teen was shot multiple times in the chest, Blake said. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, and is in serious condition.

Mary Street was temporarily shut down with police cruisers and tape between Carbon and Park streets.

The second shooting was reported minutes later in the 100 block of West Ostrander Avenue, Blake said.

A man called 911 to report that his nephew had just been shot while he was walking on West Ostrander Avenue and Cannon Street.

Police found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the ankle on West Ostrander Avenue, Blake said. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital as well.

Police ask anyone with information about either shooting to call the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222.
