Syracuse, N.Y. — Raouf Muharram was talking on the phone to his wife in Egypt while working at the Blue Star Gas Station in Syracuse.

He often talked or video chatted with her and their three kids on the phone to keep in touch with them despite the 5,000 miles distance. Sometimes he would watch his kids play or they would watch him work.
