Did Syracuse lacrosse drop out of Top 10 after close loss to No. 1 Maryland?

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse lacrosse took the top-ranked team in the nation into the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon but couldn’t match Maryland’s depth or crack its defense late.

It was enough to keep the Orange (1-1) at No. 9 in this week’s Inside Lacrosse media poll after a 14-10 loss to Maryland, which retained its spot at the top of the polls.

Syracuse also remained at No. 9 in the USILA coaches’ poll for the second-straight week.

Up next is a trip to No. 2 Virginia at noon Saturday. The game will be televised by ACC Network.

The two-time defending national champions are coached by LaFayette native Lars Tiffany, who started his college coaching career at Le Moyne as an assistant coach of men’s program and co-head coach of the women’s program from 1994-96.

The game will also mark goalie Bobby Gavin’s first against his former school since transferring from Virginia to Syracuse two months ago.
