Clay, N.Y. — A deputy’s son who was shot Monday morning along with his mother in their family home on Oneida River has died, authorities said.
Troy Eames, 21, died at Upstate University Hospital Monday afternoon, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
His mother Karen Eames, 46, is in critical condition, according to an Upstate University Hospital spokesperson.
Troy’s father, Isaac Eames, an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputy, died at the scene of the shooting reported at 7:30 a.m. Monday, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. Katherine Loveland. Isaac Eames, 48, was married to Karen Eames.
Deputies have not yet identified who fired the fatal shots but said the shooting was not random and that there is not an “ongoing threat” to the public.
Karen Eames is a secretary for the Liverpool school district.
The Liverpool school district sent a notice to families Monday afternoon that a high school secretary and her son were critically injured in a shooting Monday morning.
“Our hearts go out to the family,” Mark Potter, Liverpool school superintendent, said in his message to parents. “We ask that you please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Earlier Monday, the district canceled all after-school activities, including a district board meeting, practices, athletic events and other events. The district said it would have counselors available to support students.
The shooting happened in a home at 4410 Riverview Road that county records show is owned by Isaac Eames.
The shooting was reported to 911 at about 7:30 a.m.
A 46-year-old woman reported to 911 dispatchers that she had been shot in the home, according to dispatch reports.
Dispatchers later relayed to deputies that three people were “down” and they needed two additional ambulances to be sent after one had already been sent.
Isaac Eames had worked for the sheriff’s office as a civil deputy since 2010.
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Attorney General’s office, who were also on scene, Loveland said.
