Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse will open the 2022 season just outside the Top 10 of the Inside Lacrosse media poll.

The Orange checked in at No. 12 in the poll released Monday.

Defending national champion Virginia, coached by LaFayette native Lars Tiffany, will open the season ranked No. 1.

ACC programs Duke (No. 3), Notre Dame (No. 5) and North Carolina (No. 6) are also ranked ahead of the Orange.

Syracuse will face 10 teams ranked in the poll’s top 20 in Gary Gait’s first season leading the men’s program, including No. 2 Maryland on Feb. 20 and the top-ranked Cavaliers the following weekend.

Cornell, and all other Ivy League schools, did not play in 2021 because of Covid. The Big Red is ranked No. 15 in IL’s preseason media poll and visits the Carrier Dome on April 11.

Syracuse opens the 2022 season Feb. 12 against Holy Cross inside the dome.
