Onondaga, N.Y. — A woman and her dog were airlifted to safety Thursday night by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Air-1 helicopter from Hemlock Creek in Onondaga, deputies said.

Just after 6 p.m., a woman was reported to be soaking wet, hypothermic and in need of immediate medical attention after getting trapped in a wooded area along the shore of the creek, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jon Seeber said.

Initial Onondaga County 911 Center reports indicated the woman and her dog were near state route 11A and Hemlock Road.

Unable to reach the woman, the Onondaga Nation Volunteer Fire Department requested Air 1 to assist with the rescue, Seeber said.

After getting to the creek, the pilot hovered the helicopter low over the shoreline, allowing a tactical flight officer to jump to the ground and find the woman and her dog, Seeber said.

Once found, the woman and her dog were secured in the helicopter and flown to a nearby baseball field to be treated by medical personnel, Seeber said.

The Solvay and Tully fire departments were initially called to the scene to assist with the rescue, according to dispatches.
