Solvay, N.Y. – A fire at a Solvay pizza restaurant prompted a massive response from local departments Monday night.
The fire was reported at 8:05 p.m. at Bianchi’s Pizza Pad and Catering, 2623 Milton Ave., according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.
Smoke was billowing from the restaurant and spreading across Milton Avenue.
One person in a wheelchair was reportedly trapped in an apartment above the restaurant, according to dispatches.
A first responder told dispatchers that the apartment was filling with smoke but they would be able to rescue the trapped individual using a chair lift.
Firefighters fought the fire on the first floor and placed at least four ladders leading to the second floor.
Fire officials were not immediately available for comment. It is unclear how severe the damage was or if anyone was injured in the blaze.
Red Cross disaster relief officials were on the scene to assist those affected by the fire.
Crews from Fairmont Fire Department, Liverpool Fire Department, Moyers Corners Fire Department, Taunton Fire Department and Geddes Police were assisting the Solvay Fire Department at the scene.
Crews were still at the scene three hours after the fire was reported.
