A Cicero man has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after an incident earlier today in the parking lot of the BOCES campus in Mexico.

Joshua Paoni, 27, will be arraigned in an Oswego County court today on the charges, according to Oswego County sheriff’s deputies.

The arrest stems from an incident early this morning where Oswego County sheriff’s school resource officers were investigating a social media threat about a school shooting. They noticed a suspicious car parked in the BOCES parking lot. There were three people in the car, and officers detained them. They discovered two handguns and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, deputies said.

All three people in the vehicle were detained, and Paoni was later arrested after an investigation, deputies said.

The other two people who were detained along with Paoni are BOCES students and are juveniles, deputies said. They have not been charged.

Students were all sent home or back to their home school, deputies said. Students will learn remotely on Tuesday.

Deputies are still investigating where there is a link between the social media threat and the parking lot incident.
