Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football coach Dino Babers is making changes to his coaching staff on the heels of a 5-7 season.
Tight ends coach Reno Ferri is out, according to a source, and defensive line coach Vince Reynolds has also been let go, according to a report by Yahoo Sports.
They’re two of the longest-tenured assistants on Babers’ staff. Both have been with Babers since his first season in 2016.
The staff changes quiet speculation Babers will be out as head coach after wrapping his sixth season with the school following Saturday night’s 31-14 loss to No. 17 Pittsburgh.
They’re the first significant moves of the offseason and come ahead of Sunday afternoon’s meeting with players.
Ferri, the tight ends coach, was the program’s primary area recruiter in the talent-rich, Maryland-D.C. region. He helped recruit star running back Sean Tucker and linebacker Marlowe Wax out of the area.
The tight end usage in Babers’ offense has been a consistent source of frustration in the fan base, airing complaints about the position’s lack of receiving targets.
Reynolds oversaw a senior-laden defensive line that graduates its top four contributors off this year’s team. Syracuse tied for 16th in the country in sacks with 37, led by defensive end Cody Roscoe’s 8.5.
